Output Buffering is a technique where program output is temporarily stored in memory before being sent to its final destination, such as a terminal, file, socket, or network stream. Instead of writing every byte the moment it is produced, Output Buffering collects chunks of output and releases them in controlled bursts. This reduces overhead, improves performance, and prevents systems from being interrupted constantly by tiny write operations.

At a low level, Output Buffering exists because writing data is expensive. Every write may involve system calls, context switches, or I/O waits. By buffering output, programs minimize those costs. The data accumulates in a buffer until it reaches a certain size, encounters a newline, or is explicitly flushed. Only then does the operating system step in and move the data onward through the I/O pipeline.
